Conservation Easement Program

Longmont's Peschel Open Space shows a creek running throuhg some green brush with large trees in the distance.

Conservation easements are a powerful tool to create lasting benefits for our community.

Conservation Easements Over Private and County Land

Longmont partners with private landowners and Boulder County to protect their land through conservation easements. Through these voluntary partnerships to reduce development, landowners maintain ownership and use of their land while permanently protecting important natural, scenic, and agricultural resources for the benefit of the community. Longmont ensures these protections are upheld through ongoing monitoring.

Longmont currently holds conservation easements over a number of properties in both Boulder and Weld Counties, helping preserve open space and working lands throughout the region.

Conservation Easements Over Longmont’s Open Space

Longmont partners with trusted agencies to place conservation easements over our open space lands, ensuring these lands remain protected forever. These conservation easements safeguard the City’s water resources, wildlife habitat, and farmland for future generations, no matter how conditions and pressures may change over time.

Boulder County, Longmont Conservation District, and Colorado Parks and Wildlife currently hold conservation easements over City open space lands. As the City expands our open space system, we will continue to partner with trusted agencies to provide this added layer of protection.
