SCOPE Therapeutic Recreation
SCOPE is Longmont Recreation & Golf Services’ therapeutic recreation program committed to providing recreational programs and activities for people of all abilities.
The mission of SCOPE is to provide specialized support and recreational opportunities to people with disabilities and individuals with special needs. Our vision is to enrich lives and create experiences that are memorable, empowering, fun and safe for all participants.

Below are some examples of programs that are offered throughout the year.
SCOPE Basketball offers instruction and training for the Colorado Northeast Area Special Olympics Basketball Competition. For ages 8 – 15 and ages 16 & up.
SCOPE Bowling is designed to give each participant an opportunity to enjoy this life long leisure activity. For ages 12 & up.
SCOPE offers two softball programs designed to meet the needs of people of all abilities:
- Softball For All is a beginning level program for athletes who need more one-on-one assistance and is for ages 8 & up.
- Unified Softball offers two leagues for athletes with developmental disabilities. These leagues provide an opportunity for athletes who know the fundamentals of softball to play with non-disabled partners in a team situation. Optional participation in Special Olympics tournament available. Unified Softball is for players ages 13 & up.
SCOPE Swimming offers training for the Colorado Northeast Area Special Olympics Swimming competition. Two teams are available depending on athlete’s swimming ability. For ages 8 & up.
SCOPE Track and Field offers instruction and training for competition in the Colorado Northeast Area Special Olympics Track and Field Program. For ages 8 & up.
SCOPE Volleyball offers instruction and training for the Colorado Northeast Area Special Olympics Volleyball Competition. For ages 12 & up.
In addition to our sports instruction and leagues, the SCOPE program offers many regular activities and events throughout the year, including an 8-week day camp and seasonal parties.
- Winter themes include Oscars Party and Game Night.
- Spring themes include Spring Fling and Hawaiian Luau.
- Fall themes include the Karaoke Kick-Off, Halloween Party (with costume contest!) and annual Holiday Party.
