Energy plays an essential role in all aspects of a community, whether it’s the gas and electricity we consume directly in offices and homes or that which we consume indirectly in the air conditioning systems in shops and the streetlights that illuminate our paths at night. Choices about how and when to use energy are ways that individual community members can impact total energy use.

100% Renewable Energy Resolution

On January 9th, 2018, City Council passed a resolution to commit Longmont to 100% renewable energy supply for electricity supply by 2030. Sustainability staff will be working with Longmont Power & Communications and Platte River Power Authority to make this goal possible.

Beneficial Building Electrification Plan

The City has committed to assertive climate action and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions on several fronts, including energy efficiency in buildings, carbon-free and alternative modes of transportation, waste reduction, and 100 percent renewable electricity. Beneficial building electrification supports the commitment to reducing emissions and, combined with other activities, will help the City make progress toward its goals.

The City now has a Beneficial Building Electrification Plan that outlines strategies for shifting away from fossil fuels in buildings to more efficient electric equipment over time in the community.  Visit the Longmont Indicators Beneficial Building Electrification Plan to view actions and track progress.

LoveElectric is an initiative of the Beneficial Electrification League of Colorado (BEL-CO). It’s not as specific or inclusive as Efficiency Works or Boulder County sites, but expect it to keep pace with what happens at the state level in 2023 and 2024. Plus, it’s just a really helpful website for all things electrification.
