Equitable Climate Action Team
The Equitable Climate Action Team (ECAT) is a group of volunteer community leaders who help City staff implement equitable climate action through community education, outreach and the evaluation of City programs.
They have defined equitable climate action as local policy and personal habits that reduce climate pollution and increase community resilience in ways that do no harm, and that support all communities according to their needs.
Although ECAT members reflect diverse perspectives and experiences, they are all connected by motivations to address the effects of climate change in an equitable way. Check out our Longmont Indicator’s page for more recent highlights of ECAT’s contributions!
What you should know before you apply
- Applications are reviewed by ECAT members and the coordinator to choose the strongest candidates
- You will be asked to commit to 4-5 hours a month of volunteering for at least 1 year
- Volunteering includes community activities and a monthly bilingual meeting
- Monthly meetings are held in-person on the second Thursday of the month from 5-8 pm
- Optional dinner is provided a half hour before the meeting starts
- English-Spanish interpretation is offered during meetings
- This is considered a volunteer opportunity with the City of Longmont, not employment. The City will not be providing any compensation, including worker’s compensation benefits
- The Longmont Community Foundation provides a volunteer service award for each member of $125 per month as equitable program participation support. This support, if available, is intended to open participation in climate action projects to frontline community members who otherwise couldn’t participate.
Next steps after you apply
- If your volunteer application is selected to move forward by the team, the coordinator will contact you to share more details and ask follow-up questions
- You will begin after you have attended a volunteer orientation and signed the Membership Agreement. Generally speaking, new ECAT members start in January each year
