Mural Painting Begins

Longmont Art in Public Places (AIPP) and the Longmont Downtown Development Authority are pleased to welcome North Carolina-based artist Osiris Rain to Longmont to complete a large and complex mural on the new Kimbark Street parking deck next to Hotel Longmont.

The artist was selected through a national call to artists request for qualifications (RFQ) process. More than 100 artists submitted proposals for consideration. Through a phased selection process that included an initial blind review and detailed evaluation of submissions, the field was narrowed to three semi-finalists. Each presented their concepts in a public presentation, and a community-based selection panel chose the final artist.

Osiris Rain is an internationally acclaimed muralist and fine artist known for his large-scale public artworks that blend bold realism, surreal abstraction and cultural narrative. Learn more in the City of Longmont news release.

ON THE CALENDAR

Independence Weekend is Here!

On July 3, G. Love & Special Sauce rocks a free show at Roosevelt Park. Doors open at 6 pm; food and drink for purchase. On July 4, the Longmont Symphony performs a free concert in Thompson Park at 11:30 am. Then the action moves downtown for a family festival, drone show and fireworks, 5-10 pm. Enjoy a special Saturday Itty Bitty City on July 11 at the St. Vrain Memorial Building. Kids ages 6 months to 5 years have lots of room to run and play with provided toys. Parents must supervise their children. The cost is $5 per child – or use your Itty Bitty City pass.

On Tuesday, June 23 Council had a Regular Session and discussed board appointments and:

Abolishing the Board of Adjustment and Appeals
Adopting the Model Traffic Code (with a few local exceptions)
Adopting the Public Improvement Design Standards in Title 11 of the Municipal Code
Adopting the Public-Private Partnership agreements between Front Range Community College, the City and Vertikal Richmark for the Innovative Campus in lower downtown

Next Meeting

The Longmont City Council will hold an Open Forum, in place of the regular City Council meeting. At this forum, members of the public may speak to council for five minutes on any topic. The forum will begin at 7 pm in the City Council Chambers at 350 Kimbark Street. If you would like to speak, sign-up begins at 6:30 pm. Members of the public may not assign their speaking time to another person.

City Holiday Schedules

Design the Longmont Flag

Longmont’s Art in Public Places (AIPP) program invites community members to submit an application to design a new official City of Longmont flag. The selected designer will create a distinctive flag that uses symbolism, color, and strong flag design principles to reflect community feedback, shared values, and aspirations for the future.

Rent an Activity Pool

Host a birthday party or special event at Longmont’s activity pools! Geared toward children up to 10 and their guardians, pools offer zero depth entry and water slides, bucket dumps and places to splash and play. Municipal Court Weddings

The Longmont Municipal Court welcomes couples to exchange vows in a simple, meaningful ceremony performed by a judge. Ceremonies are held by appointment; guests are welcome, but not required. Either way your special day is honored with care. To reserve your date, please call 303-774-4804.

Just for Fun

There is an 8 1/2 foot tall copper replica of the Statue of Liberty on the east side of Roosevelt Park. It was dedicated by the Boy Scouts of America in 1950 as part of the Strengthen the Arm of Liberty Operation. Scouts dedicated more than 200 of these statues – all across America – between 1949 and 1952. Roughly half survive today.
