City of Longmont parks, open spaces and trails/greenways are subject to ordinances outlined within the City’s Municipal CodeChapter 13.20 – Public Lands provides details on regulations, violations and enforcement. The Public Lands Map is available to help define areas referenced within the ordinances.

Hours of Use

The City may modify the hours of public use listed here for the protection of health, safety, or public land resources by posting the modified hours clearly at the location.

 

Issuance of a public places permit may temporarily expand the permissible hours of public use.

 

Neighborhood and Community Parks

  • Neighborhood Parks are open from one hour before sunrise until one hour after sunset, seven days a week.Neighborhood Parks include: Affolter, Alta, Athletic Field, Blue Skies, Carr, Collyer, Dawson, Flanders, Hover Acres, Kanemoto, Lanyon, Left Hand Creek, Loomiller, Pratt, Price Sunset, Raber, Rothrock Dell, Rough and Ready, Spangler, Stephen Day, Thompson, Valley, and Willow Farm.

 

  • Community Parks are open from 5 am to 11 pm, seven days a week.Community Parks include: Clark-Centennial, Dry Creek, Garden Acres, Quail Campus, Roosevelt, and Sandstone Ranch.

 

Nature Areas, Greenways, and Dog Parks

  • Nature Areas, Greenways, and Dog Parks are open from one hour before sunrise until one hour after sunset, seven days a week, except as otherwise posted.

 

  • Nature Areas include: Rogers Grove Nature, McIntosh Lake, Oligarchy Greenway, Lykins Gulch, Longmont Supply, Lefthand Greenway, Jim Hamm, Izaak Walton, Golden Ponds, Dry Creek Greenway, County Road 1 Trailhead, St. Vrain Greenway, Button Rock, Dickens Farm Nature Area, Dog Park #1, Dog Park #2, McCall Lake Nature Area, McIntosh Lake Nature Area, Rough and Ready Greenway, Spring Gulch #1 and #2, Tri State Greenway, and Union Reservoir Nature Area.

Special Notes

  • Button Rock Preserve: The parking lot at Button Rock Preserve is open one hour before sunrise until one hour after sunset, seven days per week. It is unlawful to leave a vehicle in this parking lot outside these hours.

 

  • Camping:  It is unlawful for any person to camp within any park, parkway, recreation area, open space, or other city property without a permit. For purposes of this section, camp means to reside or dwell temporarily in a place by using or erecting a shelter (other than park provided shelters), temporary or otherwise, including a tent or any type of cover or protection from the elements besides the clothing a person is wearing or a blanket.

 

  • Greenway trails: Where a greenway trail extends through a public land, that public land’s hours apply for any off trail use. Continuous movement through a park, nature area, or greenway on the designated greenway trail surface is allowed at all times.

 

  • St. Vrain Creek: Recreational water activities are allowed along parts of the St. Vrain Creek through Longmont (from Airport Road to 119th Street). That webpage includes a printable map showing access points and closure areas within Dickens Farm Nature Area.

 

  • Undeveloped Lands: Undeveloped lands slated for future public land development and undeveloped portions of public lands, as shown on the public lands map, are open to the public during the corresponding hours described above, except as posted.
