How It Works

The Crime Free Hotel/Motel program is a partnership between law enforcement and hotel/motel managers designed to reduce criminal activity, such as drug use and prostitution, on lodging properties. Modeled after successful initiatives like the Crime Free Housing Program, it typically involves a structured approach with phases that include manager training, property security assessments, and collaboration with police to enforce strict policies. By establishing protocols like visitor registration, environmental design improvements, and zero-tolerance rules for illegal behavior, the program aims to deter crime, decrease police calls for service, and foster safer environments for guest and surrounding communities. This same outcome has been observed in our well-established Crime Free program in the rental housing industry in Longmont, where significant reductions in police calls for service have demonstrated its effectiveness in enhancing property safety and stability.

The Crime Free Hotel/Motel Program addresses these topics:

  • Preventing Illegal Activity
  • C.P.T.E.D. (Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design) Concepts
  • Active Property Management
  • Early and Later Warning Signs
  • Combating Crime Problems
  • Working with the Police
  • Overview of Hotel /Motel Ordinance O-2025-15
  • Potential Liability Issues
  • Current Drug and Crime Trends
