Throughout the United States crimes are solved every day because concerned residents notify their local police department. Approximately 42 percent of all violent crimes occur at or near a home or school within observation.

Police officers cannot be everywhere to observe crimes in progress. You may now, or in the future, have information that will help the police department solve a crime. It is estimated that for every one tip, 100 hours of an investigators time is saved, thus allowing crimes to be solved more quickly. The Department of Justice has estimated that approximately 42 percent of all quality-of-life crimes committed in the United States are reported. In Longmont, 49 percent are reported by residents.
