TIME: 9 am to 2pm, Monday - Friday (appointment scheduling for the current day ends at 7am). Note: Beginning August 1, 2023 property pick up appointments will be held on Monday through Thursday. The first appointment will be at 8:00 am and the last appointment at 12:00 pm. 

CHECK YOUR EMAIL:  The Property and Evidence staff may need to send you additional information pertaining to your appointment,  please check your email just prior to attending your scheduled appointment for any messages.

LOCATION: If you have an appointment, please go to the first floor of the Safety and Justice Building located at 225 Kimbark Street. Once you come into the lobby proceed to the window on the left and call the PROPERTY AND EVIDENCE phone number listed above the lobby phone.

APPOINTMENTS: Property is released by appointment only beginning December 1, 2017. There is no charge to sign up on Eventbrite. Our switch to a reservation system better serves our community with shorter wait times. Be sure keep track of your appointment time confirmation emailed to you. We recommend that you print this out or have it available on a mobile device. The time you have reserved is on the lower half of the ticket. We cannot take residents for a time in which you have not been scheduled.

If you do not have a computer or a mobile device, the Longmont Library located at 409 4th Avenue, Longmont, can provide the assistance you need. 

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Please be advised that you may experience a short wait time. Please also be advised that there may be some instances where the Property and Evidence staff may be called away from the Safety and Justice Building to assist with off-site support for crime scene investigations. If this happens on the day of your appointment, we apologize in advance. Please schedule a new appointment.

  • In order to claim any property, proper photo identification is required.
  • For the return of firearms, you must contact property and evidence prior to making an appointment.  Unlike other types of property, the retrieval of firearms is more time consuming and often requires additional steps.  Law enforcement must complete any necessary steps mandated under state and federal law to return these firearms, including, but not limited to: background check, ATF trace (Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms and Explosives Bureau), Transfer of firearms documentation, etc. Please email
  • If you receive written notification from the Property Section that you have property to claim, this property will be held for 60 days after the mailing of the notice. Proof of ownership, such as a sales receipt, may be required in some instances. Unclaimed property will be disposed of per municipal ordinance.
  • If you are unable to claim your property, you may designate another person to the claim the property for you. In this case, you must provide your agent with a notarized letter authorizing that person to claim your property for you. The agent must present the notarized letter and proper photo identification to the evidence personnel in order for the property to be released.
  • Unclaimed property or evidence with an unknown owner or when there is no known address of the owner, is advertised in the local newspaper and held for sixty (60) days after the actual date advertised. If the property is not claimed, it will be disposed of per municipal ordinance.
  • It is the policy of the Longmont Police Department to allow a finder of property to claim found property. Every attempt will be made to locate the rightful owner. However a finder may claim found property, which will be available 60 days after the advertised date. The finder must make the request in writing. Employees of the City of Longmont cannot claim found property. If you have any questions, please email Property/Evidence Section.


SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT WITH PROPERTY AND EVIDENCE

All items not claimed by time frames set under Longmont Municipal Code are sent to auction. Longmont Police Department is currently utilizing Roller Auctions. They can be reached by phone at (303)289-1600 or you may find additional information on their website.
