Overview
Launched in 2019, the Sustainable Business Program is a cornerstone of the City of Longmont’s Sustainability Plan, which envisions an engaged community that promotes environmental stewardship, economic vitality, and social equity for a thriving future.

Supported by the City’s Sustainability Fund and partners including Efficiency Works, Partners for a Clean Environment, and the Colorado Green Business Network, the program:

- Provides free, one-on-one advising and resources to help Longmont businesses conserve energy and water, reduce waste, advance social equity, and improve the sustainability of their operations and facilities.
- Recognizes and celebrates local businesses for their sustainability achievements through official certification and an annual celebration event.
Eligible participants include all Longmont businesses—including home-based businesses—and registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations.
How to Participate
Step 1: Register Your Business
Start your online application — it’s quick, easy, and free!
Step 2: Assess and Plan
Receive a free 30-minute assessment of your facility’s energy, water, and waste use to uncover practical, cost-saving opportunities. With guidance from the Sustainable Business Program, develop a plan to make your business more efficient, equitable, and environmentally sustainable.
Step 3: Get to Work
Put your sustainability plan into action! The Sustainable Business Program and its partners offer a wide range of financial resources and information to support your progress.
Step 4: Certify Your Business (Optional)
Earn recognition for your sustainability achievements! The program offers three levels of certification based on your progress and impact. Certified businesses are featured on the Sustainable Business Map — showcasing your commitment to a thriving, sustainable Longmont. Learn more about certification levels here.
Step 5: Celebrate Your Success
Once a year, the Sustainable Business Program honors businesses leading the way in sustainability with a festive recognition event.
