Looking for volunteering opportunities? Do you have NHS, IB or school credits that you need to complete? We have great options for teens who want to give something back to their communities, and we appreciate our teen volunteers.
Volunteer at the Library!
The Longmont Public Library appreciates our teen volunteers! We provide a seasonal opportunity for teens to earn volunteer hours for school, extracurricular clubs, or just to have fun!
Our seasonal program for the spring semester runs from Feb. 3 to May 8. Volunteers are expected to work 2-4 hours each week of the season helping with tasks in the Children and Teens area of the library, including shelving books, helping prepare programs, and organizing among other assignments.
Teens must be ages 14-17, pass a city mandated background check, and attend an orientation in order to volunteer.
Key skills include:
- Flexibility: willingness to perform a variety of projects and tasks.
- Communication and listening skills: willingness to ask questions if projects/tasks are unclear, and communicate with staff independently.
- Dependability: willingness to complete assigned projects/tasks and fulfill volunteer commitment.
- Follow instructions:Â able to work independently and focus on fairly detailed tasks.
- Respectful: respects the diversity of people at the Library.
Shifts will be performed individually. If you would prefer to work with others, are under the age of 14, or don’t have the time for a full season, check out our Teen Library Committee on the first Tuesday of each month to earn one hour of community service.
At the end of the application period, you will be contacted by the teen librarian with next steps.
NOTE: City of Longmont policy requires all volunteers working around children to complete a free background check. If you are accepted to the Teen Volunteer Program, the City of Longmont will contact you for information so they can complete your background check.
