A brightly colored play structure appears against a cloudless sky.

Project Overview

Roosevelt Park is a historic community park spanning three blocks, centrally located near the Downtown District. Starting with the dedication of the park in 1892, the grounds have seen many changes from a lake and racetrack to ballfields, further transitioning over the decades into a community gathering place that houses a large pavilion, activity pool, and an array of public art. The west end of the park showcases a rose garden and playground with a reservable stone picnic shelter. The park is host to several large events and celebrations throughout the year. Roosevelt Park continues to develop through a series of planned improvements to provide a safe and beautiful location for all to enjoy.

Roosevelt Park Improvements Plan

The improvement project will consist of a new playground and an adult fitness course feature to occur in the SW area of the park. The existing play area was installed over 30 years ago and will undergo a full replacement to alleviate safety concerns, expand play options, and better utilize the space. The adult fitness course will be located with convenience and comfort in mind near the stone shelter. The course will offer 5-7 pieces of equipment to target varying abilities and fitness objectives.

A small landscape project to improve an art piece located near the Senior Center entry will also be included in this project. While working closely with the AIPP administrator and parks operations department, the turf will be converted to a larger, low maintenance landscape bed.

A public process to gather input on preferred playground design and adult fitness equipment options will occur during the latter half of 2024.

Public Outreach

Public feedback will be gathered in two phases. The first phase will take place in June of 2024 with a survey to understand community needs for the adult fitness course. The second phase will occur in the fall of 2024 to connect with the community on playground design and features.
