Loud Noise
Updated to reflect new ordinance effective October 27, 2022
In order to avoid violating the city’s "unreasonable noise" ordinance please be aware of how loud you have your stereo, when you do home repairs, when you work on your vehicles and how loud you and your friends are being.
You may be violating the noise ordinance and you may be ticketed for such if:
- Anytime someone can hear amplified sound inside their home or when your amplified sound can be heard 25 feet away.
- Anytime you use your power tools (non-licensed engines and electronic or pneumatic tools) after 10 pm or before 7 am and someone can hear it in their home or it can be heard 25 feet away.
- Anytime you do vehicle repairs after 10 pm or before 7 am and someone can hear it in their home or it can be heard 25 feet away.
- Anytime you and a group of friends gather, for more than 15 minutes after 10 pm or before 7 am, and someone can hear it in their home or it can be heard 25 feet away.
- Motor vehicle noise from a licensed, non-commercial vehicle audible 300 feet from the source of the sound. Motor vehicle noise means noise from engines, exhaust systems, and brakes.
If you are a witness to or a victim of unreasonable noise and you feel safe in doing so, please ask the violator to stop. Otherwise, please call the police department’s non-emergency number at (303) 651-8501 to report noise violations.
