Obtaining a Firearm Clearance for Federal Firearm Licensees
Due to the requirements outlined in CRS 29-11.7-105, Public Safety has established the following process for receiving and completing business firearm serial-number clearances for Federal Firearms Licensees (FFLs) operating within the Longmont city limits.
How to Obtain a Clearance
- Complete the Required Form. The Firearm Clearance Form must be completed in full. Up to three firearms may be listed per form. Instructions for completing the form are available below.

Forms may be submitted using any of the following methods:
- By Mail. Print and complete the firearm form (PDF), then mail it to:
Longmont Department of Public Safety, Records Unit, 225 Kimbark Street, Longmont, CO 80501 - In Person. Firearm forms are available at the Records Unit window, located on the first floor of the Safety and Justice Building: 225 Kimbark Street, Longmont, Colorado
- By Email. Download and complete the firearm PDF form, then email it
Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL) Form Instructions
This form is for use only by Federal Firearms Licensees (FFLs) operating within Longmont city limits.
- Download the Longmont Police Services fillable Federal Firearms Licensee Form.
- Open the form in Adobe Acrobat, then select Fill & Sign.
- Complete all applicable fields. Up to three firearms may be listed per form.
- If you prefer to receive the clearance response via email, be sure to provide an accurate email address.
- Serial numbers, make, and model information are required for the clearance to be processed.
- Longmont Public Safety will respond to all requests within 72 hours of receipt on business days. Business hours are Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 9:00 PM.
- Once completed, email the form or submit it in person at 225 Kimbark, Longmont, at the Records window in the lobby. Hours of operation.

Response
The Department will respond to all requests within 72 hours of receipt on business days. Business hours are Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 9:00 PM.
If you prefer to receive the completed clearance via email, please ensure you provide a valid email address. If no email address is provided, the clearance will be mailed back to the FFL automatically.
