Sign standards regulate the number, size, placement, and to some extent design of signs in Longmont.
Adopted changes to the sign standards represent a substantial rewrite and reorganization of the chapter. One of the primary purposes for this update is to review the standards in light of a 2015 US Supreme Court ruling (Reed vs Town of Gilbert) regarding content-based restrictions on signage. The update also consolidates and updates sign standards to take into consideration best practices, current trends and community goals while simplifying the standards.
