Day of the Dead - City of Longmont

Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a time to celebrate our deceased loved ones and keep their memories alive. Running since the year 2001, it’s the longest-standing Day of the Dead exhibition and celebration in Colorado and attracts more than 6,000 people annually. Community participation is an essential part of this holiday full of life, reflection, food, family, and fun.

2025 Events

Día de Muertos Family Celebration

Saturday, Oct. 11, 11 am – 3 pm; free!
Downtown Longmont 4th Avenue & Kimbark Street
Celebrate the 25th anniversary of the longest-running public Day of the Dead celebration in Colorado! This year’s Family Celebration will return to Downtown Longmont with the outdoor street festival that has become a Longmont tradition. This celebration of culture, heritage, life and love will feature traditional live music and dance, face painting, sugar skull decorating, crafts, food trucks, a kids’ play zone, local vendors and more!

Art & Sip: Tunnel Book Altar

Thursday, Oct. 23, 4 – 6 pm & 6:30 – 8:30 pm; $40
Learn about the history, symbolism and cultural significance of a traditional ofrenda (altar), the central feature of the Mexican and Guatemalan holiday Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead). Participants will make a three-dimensional book with a tunnel-like visual effect of layered cutouts for each level of the altar for the dead.

Noche de Museo: Celebrating Day of the Dead

Saturday, Nov. 1 , 7 pm – 8:30 pm; reserved seating $20, $18 members
Featuring poet ZBassSpeaks, dance by Grupo Azteca Tlahuitzcallii, and the music of iZCALLi
Join us in our Stewart Auditorium for an evening of live performances in celebration of Dia de Muertos that will span the ages, from ancient Aztecan dance with Grupo Mexica Tlahuitzcalli to the genera-bending rock and roll of iZCALLi. This annual community celebration of a centuries-old Mexican tradition has quickly become part of the cultural fabric of Longmont.
