Lyle Cone’s Story
“I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.” -Helen Marshall, Lyle Cone’s obituary
Lyle Cone worked for the City of Longmont in the Electric Department for more than 29 years after serving in WWII in the U.S. Navy. Lyle loved road trips and trout fishing and even climbed Long’s Peak.
Lyle had a passion for supporting Longmont. After he passed away at the age of 97, the executrix of his will felt compelled to support the vision of creating an auditorium for the Museum and for the City of Longmont.
“When I heard about the naming rights for the new Stewart Auditorium, I knew it was the perfect fit for his legacy,” she said. “There was no hesitation or looking back.”
The Stewart Auditorium opened in 2015, proudly displaying the Cone Shortall Stage (Cone in honor of Lyle and Shortall in honor of his mother, Eva Shortall). Lyle’s support was truly crucial in bringing the stage to Longmont, a place where people of all ages have now experienced “happy and laughing times” thanks to his generosity.
“It was very rewarding to do this for Lyle, knowing he’d be recognized by name,” said Lyle’s executrix.
This is just one story of many wonderful supporters of the Longmont Museum.
We hope you’ll consider how your or a family member’s own legacy could live on through a planned gift to the Museum.
