The Longmont Archives is your best place to come for Longmont history, the Chicago-Colorado Colony, research on an old Longmont house, information about an old building in downtown Longmont or any other topic about the past in Longmont. The Archives contains historic photographs, letters, diaries, maps, business records, school records and more. Our friendly staff can help you with your research.

The Longmont Museum’s archives contain more than 12,000 historic photographs of Longmont and the St. Vrain Valley. Search our online photos for a growing selection of digitized images, or come to the archives to see the full collection.

A preliminary guide to the “Longmont Times-Call” clipping file collection is now available. A large collection of the “Longmont Times-Call” newspapers are housed at the Longmont Archives and is available by appointment for research.

Longmont Channel video collection The Museum houses the archives of the Longmont Cable Trust, which operated Longmont Channel 3, later Channel 8, from the early 1980s until 2019. Selected videos are available through the City of Longmont’s YouTube channel, although portions of those videos may be muted due to copyright concerns. Full videos are available at the Museum’s archives. Call (303) 651-8969 for an appointment. The digitization of these videos was supported in part by an award from the Colorado Historical Records Advisory Board, through funding from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC), National Archives Records Administration.

“Longmont Times-Call” Newspaper Clipping File Collection

Collection Overview

The “Longmont Times-Call” clipping file collection at the Longmont Museum includes approximately 400 boxes of clippings dating from 1967 to 1991, arranged in categories by the Times-Call’s librarians. The category system may have been developed by Ruth Lehman, one of the publishers of the Times-Call during this period. Work is ongoing to inventory this collection.

 

Access

All of the clippings are accessible through the Longmont Museum’s archives, call 303-651-8370 for an appointment. Prints or scans of photos in the clipping files may be purchased through the Longmont Museum. Commercial use of photos requires permission of the Longmont Times-Call.
