Downtown Longmont is experiencing a tremendous transformation. Several projects are underway, all with an end goal to improve the downtown experience for everyone. Below you can find the latest updates on these projects, and learn how we’re working together to minimize disruption (and provide additional parking) during construction.

 

Latest Developments
  • [September 20, 2024] Full Closure of 6th Avenue Starting September 26 Between Coffman Street and the Alley East of Terry Street
  • [September 18, 2024] To accommodate the next stage of hotel construction, the sidewalk on the north side of 3rd Ave. between Kimbark St. and the alley east of Main St. will remain closed through approximately spring 2025.
  • [September 18, 2024] During the week of Sept. 23, asphalt will be replaced on 4th Ave. between Terry St. and Main St. as part of the City’s Pavement Management Program. Vehicle traffic will be directed through the work zone. For more information contact Jace Terfehr, 720-745-1357.
  • [September 10, 2024] Longs Peak Avenue Closed to Traffic on September 19
  • [August 30, 2024] Starting September 3, there will be a full closure of both lanes of traffic on Longs Peak Avenue between Coffman Street and Terry Street for approximately two weeks. Please check the Coffman Street Mobility Improvements webpage for more information.

Hotel Longmont rendings a
Hotel Longmont

On November 15, 2022, the Longmont City Council voted to move forward on a proposal to develop a five-story boutique hotel in downtown Longmont to be located at the northwest corner of Kimbark and 3rd Avenue. The City has partnered with the Longmont Downtown Development Authority (LDDA), the General Improvement District (GID) and The Thrash Group on this plan.

The proposed hotel currently includes approximately 84 guest rooms, 5,000 square feet of destination rooftop restaurant space, 2,000 to 4,000 square feet of meeting space, 2,000 square feet of commercial space, about 65 hotel parking spaces and about 75 public parking spaces.

Coffman Street Mobility Improvements

The Coffman Street Mobility Improvements project extends from 1st Avenue to 9th Avenue and will become a world-class, multi-modal corridor for buses, cars, bicycles, and pedestrians.

Safety & Justice Center Renovations

In 2018, City of Longmont voters approved funding for the rehabilitation and improvements to City buildings including the Safety & Justice Center (3rd Avenue and Kimbark). Structural improvements were identified and rehabilitation began in 2022. Repairs to the structure are being made to slow further deterioration while extending the life expectancy of the building by fifty years. Proposed enhancements will remove failing precast concrete. The building footprint will also be expanded to allow for current and future space needs while providing additional safety measures.

Expanded Parking Options During Construction

In response to multiple downtown projects happening in close proximity, Longmont has secured a variety of additional parking and transportation options to ensure easy access to downtown businesses.

1st & Main Transit Station/Hub

 

The City of Longmont and the Denver Regional Transportation District (RTD) are partnering to construct facilities to serve bus and rail (long-term) transit in the vicinity of 1st Avenue and Main Street on the south end of the historic downtown area.
